UW Commencement Ceremony

On June 15, 2019, the University of Washington will honor the graduating class of 2019 at the University’s 144th Annual Commencement Exercises. Over 5,500 graduates will take the field at the magnificent Husky Stadium to the cheers and applause of 40,000 family members and friends.

U District Art Walk

The U District Art Walk takes place on the third Friday of every month. Venues include Gargoyle Statuary, Sockshop University, Seven Coffee Roasters Market & Cafe, Cafe Racer, U Heights Center. Details here.

Gargoyles Statuary: Trickster Tails, Art by Heidi Estey, Artist Reception Friday, November 16, 6-9 pm. Show runs thru December 19. 4550 University Way NE.

Cafe Racer: “Candyland” by artist Kelly Lyles will be featured in addition to the works in the OBAMA (official bad art museum of art). 5828 Roosevelt Way NE.

Seven Market & Cafe, Works by artist Gregory Engel. His series is “Wunderkammer” (meaning cabinet of oddities). The series is a collection of original ceramic, mounted sculpture and cabinet filled with sculptures, bones and other natural objects. 2007 NE Ravenna Blvd.

University Heights Center, reception 6-8 pm
Various artists including:
-> Steven Omondi - handmade jewelry, earrings and bracelets; batiks and paintings.
-> Colored Pencil Artist Ekta Gupta highlights the versatility and potential of this greatly under-rated medium..
->YouthCare's University District Youth Center present their second showcase at the Art Walk. Spoken word performances, dance and visual artists from their P.O.C Street Arts program; pop-up art studio from the Art Hive at UDYC which will include interactive art activities that celebrate autumn in all its colorful glory as well as the Art Hive Installation Project on the top floor near the Auditorium.

Trick or Treat on Roosevelt

Roosevelt Ave NE between 47th and 52nd

Participating U District businesses on Roosevelt will open their doors to trick or treaters on Halloween evening. Trick or treaters are invited to:

  • collect candy and toys

  • try out musical instruments

  • listen to live music

  • visit a not-too-scary haunted house!

Free and open to the public. Families may bring a nonperishable item to donate to the University District Food Bank.

This event will be paid for by UDBIA Funds. Thank you to all the businesses and organizations that are participating and welcoming families to the U District!

U District Art Walk

The U District Art Walk is expanding! In addition to longtime participating venues Gargoyle Statuary, Sockshop University, Seven Coffee Roasters Market & Cafe, and Cafe Racer, U Heights Center will host an opening on the third Friday of every month. Reception times are as follows:

Gargoyles Statuary, reception 6-9 pm

Sockshop University, reception 6-9 pm

Cafe Racer, reception with artist Kelly Lyles, 6-8 pm. See the artist’s paintings at Kellyspot.com.

University Heights Center, 5:30-9 pm, reception upstairs plus two food trucks on the south side of the building: Green Tree -serving Mediterranean food -and Yummy 8 Lunchbox, specializing in Chinese and Japanese lunchboxes. 

StudioLife has an opening with artist Kari Westphal, 6-8 pm

Seven Coffee Roasters & Cafe, open 6-8 pm

Cafe Allegro is featuring pen and ink drawings from Seattle artist Leo Munoz throughout the month of October.
